“l believe in embracing the accident, embracing no control. Letting the process of the organic materials take their course. Letting the passing of time shape each painting and each sculpture.” ¹
The material and chance-oriented aspect of his artistic practice, which Bosco Sodi addresses in the quotation above, becomes clear in the process of creating his works: the artist applies the organic material to the flatly laid-out canvas with his bare hands over the course of several days - and then relinquishes control over the work. After this layering, the material shapes its surface itself in interaction with climate and temperature, and over time gives rise to a relief of crusts, cracks, and furrows.
